Settled is a daily edition of interesting things that happened a week or two ago.
Write below and a person will read it. There is no ticket system and no bot. If you’d like a reply, leave an address. Without one the message still reaches us, but the conversation ends there.
If you’d rather use your own mail client, write to contact@settled.news. It reaches the same person.
Because that is the app. Settled shows stories from 7–14 days ago, once the noise around them has died down — corrections have landed, the arguments have faded, and what is left is the thing itself. It is not a stale feed or a bug. Each story shows its original publication date, so a story dated last week is behaving correctly.
Settled needs a connection to fetch the latest edition; without one it shows the editions already on your phone. If you have switched sources off in Settings, a narrow selection can leave an edition with nothing in it — switching one back on usually fixes it. Your choice of countries cannot empty an edition: worldwide stories always appear. And when too few stories clear our filters, we would rather publish no edition than pad one.
It is off until you ask for it. Settings → Notifications turns on a single daily reminder at an hour you choose. If you have switched it on and nothing arrives, check that notifications are allowed for Settled in your phone or tablet’s own Settings.
There is one new edition a day. Earlier ones are still there: scroll to the end and choose “Load earlier edition”. There is no infinite scroll by design — the edition ends, and that is the point of it.
Wikipedia, NASA APOD, Futurity, Smithsonian Magazine, ScienceDaily, Atlas Obscura and Good News Network. Each is used on its own terms — some under an open licence, the rest as a headline, a short summary and a link to the original — and the full list is in the app under Settings → Licences. You can turn any of them off, as long as one stays on.
Nothing that identifies your device — no account, no advertising ID, no install ID. The privacy page sets out exactly what is and isn’t recorded.
